George Pattullo

The great Scottish striker George Pattullo (Glasgow, 1888 – London, 1953) has gone in history for his selfless gesture of love for the blaugrana colours once he had retired from football

The great Pattullo, as he was known by everyone, was a consummate sportsman: as well playing football, he also enjoyed hockey, rugby and tennis. In 1910, having just arrived in Barcelona, he was discovered by Joan Gamper in a friendly kick about match in which Pattullo started in goal before coming out to score five goals. Due to business commitments he had to return to Scotland shortly after but he left behind an impressive tally of goals during his short spell with the Club.

In March 1912 he returned to Barcelona from Scotland in order to play in the semi-final of the Pyrenees Cup against Espanyol. FC Barcelona paid for his hotel, but, ever faithful to his amateur status, he returned the amount to the Club down to the last penny. Barça won that day 3-2 with two goals from Pattullo. A few days later he returned to Scotland for good only to return in April 1928 to take the honorary kick off in a Spanish Championship game between Barça and Oviedo at the stadium in Les Corts.
