Gary Lineker

Lineker (Leicester, England, 1960) was another striker who was a fan favourite at Camp Nou

The striker came to Barça from English club Everton just ahead of the 1986 World Cup in Mexico in which Lineker was to be top scorer. Once settled in as a blaugrana he showed his goalscoring talent and his personal charisma to quickly win over the Barça fans.

He become one of the best loved foreign players ever to play for the Club and despite playing on the wing in his final season in 1988/89 under coach Johan Cruyff, the goals kept coming. At the end of that season Lineker decided to return to England and sign for Tottenham Hotspur.

After retiring from football he embarked on a long and successful career in the media and on charity work to help in the battle against leukaemia, a disease that afflicted his eldest son.
