Alexia, UEFA Women's Player of the Year nominee

Barça Women captain one of three nominees hoping to receive the award from UEFA in Istanbul on 25 August

Alexia Putellas is one of the three nominees for the UEFA Women's Player of the Year award, along with Beth Mead (Arsenal) and Lena Oberdorf (Wolfsburg). The winner will be named on Thursday 25 August, during the 2022/23 UEFA Men's Champions League draw ceremony in Istanbul. Barça's captain is the current holder of the award, winning in 2021.

This nomination acknowledges another wonderful season by Alexia. League, Copa de la Reina and Spanish Super Cup winner with Barça, as well as UEFA Women's Champions League finalist, she was also top scorer in Europe's premier club competition with 11 goals in 10 games. The attacking midfielder scored an incredible 34 goals in 42 games last season.

Barça Women's number 11's outstanding form was unfortunately cut short on 5 July when she injured her knee while preparing for the recent UEFA Women's EURO 2022 tournament with the Spanish national side. She is currently rehabilitating after her successful operation in July.
