No summer international football for Ter Stegen

The decision, taken together with national coach Hansi Flick, is announced by the German national team

Marc ter Stegen will not be playing for Germany this summer after the player and the national team came to an agreement. In a press release published on the German Federation's website and shared on social media, the decision taken by the Barça goalkeeper and national team team coach Hansi Flick was announced. As such, Ter Stegen will not be involved in Germany's three UEFA Nations League games against Italy, England and Hungary.

"Marc and I spoke extensively about his personal situation with the national team and FC Barcelona. He is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Due to injuries, he has not been able to have a break in recent years given he has been recovering," said the German coach Hansi Flick. "Taking into account the World Cup in Qatar we agreed this year a break is important from training and matches," he added.

For his part Ter Stegen said: "I am always happy with the national team and at call ups. However, after three intense seasons without a break in the summer, I am happy that the coach backs my rest."
