FC Barcelona has longest unbeaten run in Europe's top five leagues

Following the win against Sevilla, the Catalans have not lost in La Liga for 14 games

These are happy days at FC Barcelona. After defeating Sevilla on Sunday, they have not only moved up to second place in the Liga table, but they have extended their unbeaten run in the competition to 14 games, the longest such run in Europe’s five biggest championships.

Barça have not lost since Betis were triumphant at Camp Nou on December 4 (the only league defeat since Xavi’s arrival).

After that, and starting with the 4-0 defeat of Osasuna they have collected ten wins, four draws and no losses (34 out of a possible 42 points).

But it’s not just the run, but also the way it’s happened, with wins against the three highest placed teams in the competition: Real Madrid (0-4), Atlético Madrid (4-2) and Sevilla (1-0).

In that time, Barça have scored 34 goals in total, an average of 2.4 a game, and have only conceded 12, including an impressive number of clean sheets.

Barça had dropped as low as eighth at one point of what was proving to be an extremely disappointing season indeed. But how things have changed! Not only are they now well accommodated in the Champions League places, but the league title is not entirely out of the question either!

Against Levante on Sunday, Barça will be hoping to further extend their excellent form.

Until last week, the longest runs in the top five leagues belonged to Juventus, whose loss to Inter was their first for 16 games, and Sevilla themselves, who hadn’t lost for 15 games before coming to Camp Nou.
