Luuk de Jong does it again!

The Dutch striker's goals have now earned five crucial points for the FC Barcelona league campaign

Luuk de Jong has scored yet another decisive goal. The Dutch striker has a habit of popping up at the right times and that was once again the case against Espanyol, with a 96th minute header snatching a point at the RCDE Stadium to keep the amazing unbeaten run in derbies alive.

Four goals, five points

Luuk de Jong now has four Liga goals: against Levante, Mallorca, Granada and now the ‘parakeets’.

The first was the second in a 3-0 win, while the three that followed have all been essential for securing important points.

De Jong’s goal against Mallorca was the only one of a 1-0 win, and he also scored Barça’s only goal against Granada, although in that case the opposition managed to find an equaliser.

And then came Sunday’s late show in the derby, coming just before the referee blew the whistle on would otherwise have been a 2-1 defeat.

The Dutchman also scored against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.

Xavi: ‘Luuk is an example’

After Sunday’s game, coach Xavi Hernández was full of praise for his centre forward, saying "Luuk de Jong is an example I have said that to the squad. He is a goalscorer and that’s why he went on. He had two chances and turned one of them into a goal.”
