Alexia named GOAL Player of the Year

Six from Barça in top seven of the ranking, while Leo Messi collects the men's award

Alexia Putellas has been named women’s player of the year by the website Goal following a poll of 23 million users. This is yet another accolade for the Barça captain, who was named UEFA Player of the Year and Midfielder of the Year last season.

There are no fewer than six Barça players in the top seven of the Goal ranking, namely Irene Paredes (2), Asisat Oshoala (3), Lieke Martens (4), Caroline Graham Hansen (6) and María León (7) in recognition of a fabulous year in which Barça won a historic treble of the Spanish league and cup and a first ever UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Former Barça man Leo Messi picked up the men’s award, followed on the podium by Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus/Manchester United and Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich.
