Sergio Busquets matches Xavi for 133 caps for Spain

FC Barcelona midfielder moves up to joint-third place in the all-time appearances list for La Roja

Sergio Busquets has equalled Xavi as the Barça player with the most international caps for Spain.

He first represented his country in 2009 in a game against Turkey and against Greece on Sunday against Sweden he set the new milestone, matching a player with whom he teamed up in midfield so many time for club and country becoming European and world champions, and who is now his new manager.

Sergio is now the joint third most capped Spanish international of all time.

Following himself and Xavi, the most capped Barça players over the years have been:

Andrés Iniesta (131)
Andoni Zubizarreta (126)
Cesc Fàbregas (110)
Gerard Piqué (102)
Carles Puyol (100)

Busquets has always set a wonderful example for younger players and although he is now something of a veteran, he is still excelling. His performances to help take Spain to the recent final of the UEFA Nations League attracted particular praise in the football community.
