Mingueza on another 'dream come true'

The defender has been made a permanent member of the FC Barcelona senior squad

Óscar Mingueza will be wearing the number 22 in his first season as an official member of the Barça first team. The defender says that “I’m really happy that a boyhood dream has come true and I have a first team number. I’ll work hard and give everything to this team, so that we can win everything possible.”

“The fans’ support makes a difference and I’m sure they’ll help us to have a good year.”

“The fans’ support makes a difference and I’m sure they’ll help us to have a good year.”

Last season he already played 39 games under Ronald Koeman, including 27 in the league and 5 in the Champions League, and those performances have been rewarded with a permanent place in a squad that he was already effectively a part of.

Last season he also made his full international debut for Spain and was also part of the silver medal winning team at the Tokyo Olympics.

Number 22

Mingueza inherits the 22 shirt worn by Ansu Fati last season and that Emerson Royal had for the start of 2021/22. Other players that have taken the number of the years have included Arturo Vidal, Dani Alves, Éric Abidal and Javier Saviola.
