Atlético Madrid 4-3 FC Barcelona: First league defeat

The treble winners will not be able to add an undefeated Liga campaign to their list of many achievements this season

Not since the game with Granadilla on 5 May 2019 had the Barça women lost a league match, but the run came to an end on Tuesday afternoon at the Centro Deportivo Wanda against Atlético Madrid.

An end-to-end game with no shortage of goals ended 4-2 to the home side, with late strike from Deyna eventually beating this season’s treble winners.

In a game where both sides sometimes looked tired, Atlético played some wonderful football and the opener from Amanda Sampedro was delightful. A sweet finish from Bruna levelled up and Oshoala slipped on inside the post to put the European champions ahead.

But the home side were inspired after the break, and two quick goals meant they were back ahead.
Marta pounced on a rebound to set up Alexia for an equaliser, and Barça could even have won it before Deyna Castellanos scored the definitive goals with ten to go.

It was defeat on the day, but that takes nothing away from a side that has won all three major trophies for the first time ever.
