The friendly match was a testimonial for the one-time FC Barcelona player

On September 10, 1958, Barça hosted Elche at Les Corts. The game would serve as a homage to César Rodríguez, who was a player and coach of the visiting side. The stadium was filled with 48,000 fans, who enjoyed a 3-2 win for Barça.

FC Barcelona coach Helenio Herrera vfielded the following lineup for the first half: Ramallets, Olivella, Biosca, Segarra, Vergés, Flotats, Tejada, Evaristo, César, Kubala and Czibor. In the second period, Estrems, Rodri, Brugué, Gràcia, Segarra, Ribelles, Hermes, Kocsis, Eulogio Martínez, Sampedro and Villaverde would play.

Although he was representing Elche at the time, César would play the first half for Barça. The Blaugrana came back from 0-2 down, as Kubala, Kocsis and Hermes overturned the deficit with goals.

A special debut

That day, Manel Vich made his debut as stadium announcer Aged 20, he listed the gifts handed to César in recognition of his time at FC Barcelona. He would go on to occupy the role for 60 years at the Camp Nou.
