FC Barcelona official announcement

Confirmation of conditions for collection of support signatures by pre-candidates for the forthcoming presidential elections

The FC Barcelona Electoral Board met on Tuesday to examine the inquiries by several pre-candidates regarding the effects of new Generalitat de Catalunya Covid-19 restrictions on the collection of support signatures.

The Government of Catalonia’s General Secretariat for Sport has been consulted on the matter and it has been confirmed that the stations of election pre-candidates may open between today and January 11 and persons formally accredited as part of pre-candidacy bids are free to move to collect support slips with the corresponding co-responsibility certificates.

The Electoral Board has also stated that it is not currently possible to replace physical slips with digital ones as this option was not mentioned in the original call for elections. Electronic voting is not technically possible, and current legislation does not support it either for elections, confidence votes or changes to statutes.

The election calendar and conditions for collection of support slips has been confirmed to be as per the original call, and the deadline for collecting said slips in support of candidates has also been confirmed as 11 January 2021.

Pursuant to article 44 of the club statutes, the Electoral Board is formed by five club members selected by draw, namely Xavier Guixeras as president, together with Jordi Aranda, Antonio G. Bermúdez, José M Balart and Jesús Valdés. The secretary of the Managing Commission, Josep Maria Mir, will act as secretary of this body too, supported by the Members Ombudsman Joan Manel Trayter.

The Board has also ratified January 24 as the date for the elections and that all procedures have been accepted by the Generalitat de Catalunya, in liaison with the Ministries for Health, the Interior, Sport and Procicat. All efforts have been made to ensure that the pre-candidates can collect support slips under the best possible conditions and with as much time as available.

Pursuant to the club statutes, the Electoral Board and Table hold the exclusive competence to deal with any issues arising with regard to the election procedure, while the Managing Commission oversees the governance, administration and representation of the club.
