From one No.10 to another: Messi's dedication to Maradona

The Argentinian celebrated his goal against Osasuna by wearing the shirt that Maradona played in for Newell’s Old Boys, Messi’s team in Argentina

After the tragic death of Diego Maradona, all eyes were on Leo Messi. The current Barça No.10 paid a very, very special tribute when scoring the fourth goal of the match against Osasuna, taking off his Barça shirt to unveil a vintage Newell's Old Boys shirt, and one with a great deal of meaning. It was the shirt worn by Maradona during the 1993/94 season at Newell’s, the team where Messi first played before signing for Barça.

Maradona played for Newell’s Old Boys for just one season, in the campaign after playing for Sevilla in 1992/93, and they would be his penultimate team before finishing his career at Boca Juniors.

Messi saw Maradona play

Interestingly, a very young Lionel Messi attended Diego Maradona's Newell's Old Boys debut. It was a match against Emelec that was played on October 7, 1993 ... and Maradona scored. A great day for Maradona and also for Messi, who today paid tribute to the Argentine legend. From one No.10 to another.
