Barça 76-65 Red Star: Unbeatable!

The Catalans, with a great first half, earn another victory at the Palau to continue leading in Europe

Barça have won again in Europe, this time against Red Star (76-65). A great first half for the Catalans, especially in defence, ensured that Saras' team earned another victory at the Palau to continue leading the Euroleague.

Flawless start

The Catalans came out on top from the first second, and a 7-0 opening to the match, including five points from Mirotic, put them ahead. Indeed, Mirotic was playing at a spectacular level, and, along with a few good minutes from Calathes and a great defensive showing, the Barça players continued to open the gap until the end of the first quarter (19-6).

The second quarter followed the tone of the first, with Barça unstoppable in attack and impeccable in defence, counteracting the attacks of their opponent. A triple from Higgins on the horn allowed Barça to go in at the break 17 points up (39-22).

Reaction from the visitors

The start of the third quarter again followed the same pattern, however, three consecutive triples from the Serbs gave the visitors a lift. From being 22 points behind, they closed to within 12 (54-42). A good triple by Hanga at the end of the period allowed Barça to reach the last quarter still well ahead (61-44).

Though the Serbs never gave up, as a 1-10 run of points showed, meaning just seven points (69-62) separated the teams with two minutes to go, Barça picked up the pace again and didn't let them back in the match, eventually winning 76-65.
