The Dutchman was assistant manager at FC Barcelona during the Dream Team era

Former FC Barcelona assistant manager Tonny Bruins Slot has passed away at the age of 73. Born in Amsterdam on 1 April 1947, Bruins Slot joined the club in 1988 as part of Johan Cruyff’s coaching staff and was here until 1996.

In his eight years on the Barça bench he helped the club to win a host of trophies, including its first ever European Cup and the amazing four consecutive Liga titles. It was an era when Barça’s football attracted praise worldwide, and the team came to be known as the Dream Team.

After leaving FC Barcelona, Bruins Slot coached at PSV Eindhoven and Ajax in his native country. From 2005 to 2009, Bruins Slot was assistant to the current FC Barcelona manager, Ronald Koeman at Benfica, PSV, Valencia and AZ Alkmaar. In recent years, he had been working at Ajax as a coach and director.
