Ter Stegen: 'We’ll fight for everything this year'

German goalkeeper and CUPRA ambassador appears at ‘CUPRA Formentor Start of Production’ event, and receives the new Formentor, the first 100% CUPRA model and designated Official FC Barcelona Car

Marc-André ter Stegen, who is currently recovering from a right knee operation, has told a digital Q&A at the CUPRA event that the team’s targets have not changed and that “as ever, the idea is to go out onto the pitch with the idea that we’ll win every game. There have been some changes and we have to adapt to the new situation. We have to create a new feeling within the group and that’s what we’re working on. But the goal hasn’t changed. We want to win and we’ll keep fighting for everything.”

The German keeper spoke about how important it is for the team to be in perfect form because due to the changes brought about by Covid-19, there has not been much time between the end of the 2019/20 and the start of 2020/21. “We have a long season ahead” he says.

Ter Stegen, who became Global Ambassador for the brand at the start of this year, was attending the CUPRA Formentor Start of Production together with the next president of SEAT and Chief Executive Officer of CUPRA, Wayne Griffiths, and the brand’s driver Jordi Gené. As part of the event he was presented with the new vehicle, which is already in production in Martorell and whose 310 HP launch edition will be on the streets from next week, with 7-speed DSG transmission including plug-in hybrid versions.

The goalkeeper stressed that for him one of the most important factors to bear in mind when choosing a car is comfort and interior. On the Formentor, which he was able to drive for the first time today, he highlighted its design and details, as well as the driving experience.

CUPRA has been the club’s official Automotive and Mobility partner since August 2019, and as part of the alliance, the Formentor, the first 100% CUPRA model, was named the official FC Barcelona car.

A strategic alliance

The strategic alliance signed between FC Barcelona and CUPRA for five seasons is much more than a traditional sponsorship deal, and the two brands plan to work together on different promotional actions and activations, as well as developing innovative joint ventures aimed at improving urban mobility.
