Seven players who have played for both Barça and Bayern

Patrik Andersson, Mark Hughes, Pepe Reina, Mark van Bommel, Thiago Alcántara, Philippe Coutinho and Arturo Vidal are the footballers who have worn the shirt of the two clubs

Barça and Bayern Munich will play each other this Friday (9.00pm CEST) in the quarter-final of the Champions League in Lisbon, but which footballers have worn the shirts of both clubs? There are seven: Patrik Andersson, Mark Hughes, Pepe Reina, Mark van Bommel, Thiago Alcántara, Philippe Coutinho and Arturo Vidal.

Patrik Andersson

The Swedish defender arrived at Barça in the 20001/02 season from Bayern Munich. Andersson only played a few minutes as a Barça player in three seasons due to the injuries he suffered.

Mark Hughes

The Welshman did the reverse. He signed for FC Barcelona in 1986 and stayed for a year, before heading to Bayern for the 1987/88 campaign and returning to Manchester United at the end of that season.

Pepe Reina

The goalkeeper was part of Barça's youth team and played for Barça B before making the jump up to the first team in the 2000/01 season, thanks to the injuries to Richard Dutruel and Francesc Arnau. At the end of his second season he signed for Villarreal and played for the Yellow Submarine for three seasons, prior to his eight seasons at Liverpool. He also defended the Bayern Munich shirt in the 2014/15 season, where, despite participating in only three games, he won the Bundesliga.

Mark van Bommel

The Dutch midfielder played one season for FC Barcelona, in 2005/06, signing from PSV Eindhoven. He won four titles in that time, including the Champions League. The Dutchman signed for Bayern in the summer of 2006, with whom he played for four and a half seasons.

Thiago Alcántara

Thiago Alcántara, who played in Barça's youth teams, debuted with the first team in 2009 in a league match against Mallorca. In the summer of 2013 he became a Bayern player and has been there for seven seasons.

Philippe Coutinho

The Brazilian player arrived at the club in the winter transfer market of the 2017/18 season, playing the remainder of the season for Barça. Coutinho remained at the club for the following season, playing a total of 76 games and scoring 21 goals. This season he has been on loan at Bayern with whom he has won the Bundesliga and the German Cup.

Arturo Vidal

The Chilean midfielder came to FC Barcelona from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2018, after completing three seasons with the German team. Vidal has been a Barça player for two seasons, during which time (95 games) he has won a league title and a Spanish Super Cup. He's scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists.
