UD Ibiza 1–2 Barça: Copa comeback!

A double from Antoine Griezmann including an injury time winner, cancelled out Caballé’s early goal

Barça got their 2019/20 Copa del Rey campaign underway against UD Ibiza at a packed Estadio Municipal de Can Misses. A much changed XI from the league game against Granada soon settled into their rhythm on a tight artificial pitch, and kept the ball moving well.

Despite the early exchanges favouring the visitors, it was the hosts who opened the scoring on nine minutes with a goal from Caballé.

Post

Both sides cancelled each other out for the remainder of the half, a particularly congested midfield not conducive to free-flowing football. Ibiza came closest to a second after hitting the post a few minutes before the break.

A purposeful start to the second half saw Barça continue on the front foot, with every player working hard to forge an opening.

Warning

With 20 minutes left to play, Ibiza noticeably began to tire. Ivan Rakitic and Ansu Fati had already served a warning to the hosts before a pinpoint Frenkie De Jong pass found Antoine Griezmann centrally and the Frenchman fired home the equaliser on 72.

A frantic end to the game saw chances come and go but with extra-time looming, Griezmann was on target in the 94th minute to win it for the visitors, substitute Jordi Alba with the assist.
