Oshoala, African player of the year for fourth time

Barça’s Nigerian striker has won the African Football Confederation’s award the most times

Asisat Oshoala has been named African Women’s Footballer of the Year 2019 by the African Football Confederation. Art a gala ceremony in Egypt, the Barça striker collected the prize as her continent’s finest player for a record fourth time, having also been named in 2014, 2016 and 2017, equalling her compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha, winner in 2004, 2005, 2010 and 2011.

The Barça number 20 beat fellow nominees Ajara Nchout of Cameroon and Youcef Belaïli of South Africa in a vote by CAF national coaches and captains.

Signed on 31 January 2019, Oshoala has played 29 competitive games for Barça, scoring 21 goals. She is the first and as yet only Barça player to score in a Champions League Final, against Lyon last summer in Budapest.
