The challenges ahead

Eibar, Slavia Pragues, Real Madrid and Valladolid are on the menu for what's left of October

Barça return to training on Monday, and as the week progresses, the various internationals, if they haven’t already, will be reporting back to base and switching their minds to the trip to Eibar on Saturday (1.00pm CEST).

So now is a fine time to take stock of the immediate challenges in what remains of October at FC Barcelona.

Keep winning

Barça have won four in a row in all competitions, three in La Liga (Sevilla, Villarreal and Getafe), and one in the Champions League (Inter Milan). When you are winning games, there is only one thing you need to do. Keep winning games!

Stay unbeaten against Eibar

Barça have played Eibar ten times in the league, and have won nine, drawn one and lost absolutely none of those fixtures. They have a 33-6 goals difference in those encounters dating back to 2014. So, we haven’t lost yet, and let’s not do it on Saturday either!

Keep spreading the goalscoring love

Amazingly, Barça’s 20 league goals so far have been scored by 12 different players. Leo Messi and Ousmane Dembélé were the latest to get off the mark against Sevilla, while Luis Suárez leads the way with four. Griezmann has three; Ansu Fati, Arthur and Vidal have two each and De Jong, Piqué, Carles Pérez, Jordi Alba and Junior Firpo have also netted. Anyone else fancy joining the list?

Beat Slavia Prague

We’ve played Sparta and we played the ‘original’ Dukla, but Slavia is a totally new one for us. And the Czech champions have looked impressive in their first two games in the Champions League, so adding to the four points we have so far will not be easy. Do it, and we’ll be on excellent track for the last sixteen.

Hold out even longer at Camp Nou

Every game at Camp Nou so far this season has gone down as home win. And with an 18-6 goal difference, the stadium is as strong a fortress as ever. To keep the record going, we’re going to have to deal with Real Madrid. We have another home fixture before the month is out – that one’s against Valladolid.

Win a third consecutive Clásico

On Saturday 26 at 1.00pm CET, we’ll be looking to beat Real Madrid for the third time in a row (the record is five wins). And we haven’t lose a league Clásico since we went down 2-1 at home in 2016. Last season, of course, we saw off the all-whites in majestic fashion, a 5-1 win. A repeat of that would be nice!

End October by beating Valladolid

The month ends with a game at home to Valladolid, and it would be lovely to go into November with another three points in the bag. We haven’t lost at home to los pucelanos this century, and let’s keep that run alive!
