Nikola Mirotic signs for Barça

Barça reach an agreement with the power forward for the next three seasons, with the option of an extension through to 2023

Barça and Nikola Mirotic have reached an agreement for the Montenegrin power forward to join the club until 2022, with the option of a fourth season, pending his passing a medical. The 28-year-old will be presented at the Palau Blaugrana on Monday, July 8, at 1.30pm CEST.

An NBA-level signing

Mirotic is in the prime of his sporting career, and has decided to return to Europe to join up with Barça and coach Svetislav Pesic. He has spent the past five seasons in the NBA and contested a total of 359 games (319 in the Regular Season and 40 in the Playoffs) with an average of 12 5 rebounds per game.

In his first spell in the NBA, from 2014 until February of 2018, he played 260 games for the Chicago Bulls, before subsequently signing for the New Orleans Pelicans, for whom he played from February 2018 until February 2019.

Mirotic averaged 15.7 PPG for the side from Louisiana, as well as 8.2 rebounds in 62 Regular Season games. He averaged 15 points ad 9.6 rebounds in the Playoffs. He also turned out for the Milwaukee Bucks, playing 14 Regular Seasons games and 14 Playoff contests.

Euroleague experience

Mirotic, who took his first formative steps as a player at Joker School in Podgorica (Montenegro) and Real Madrid, has 97 Euroleague games to his name in four seasons, and was named the best young talent in the competition in 2011 and 2012. He contributed an average of 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds in the continental tournament.

In the ACB, Mirotic has played 168 games (10PPG and 4.5 RPG), winning the Liga Endesa in 2013 and becoming the MVP that year. He also has winners' medals in the Copa del Rey (2012 and 2014, as MVP) and Super Cup (2013 and 2014).
