FC Barcelona have done it again. The Blaugranas are once again among the four best teams in Europe after beating Noia Freixenet, 7-0, at the Palau Blaugrana on Saturday afternoon. Barça’s goals came from Matias Pascual (3), Joao Rodrigues (2), Pau Bargalló, and Marc Gual. Barça thus qualified for the last four 11-3 on aggregate.
After an even start, Pascual got Barça on the board with a powerful shot from long distance. Noia were trying to counterattack, but had little luck near the goal.
Sergi Fernández then made a key stop on a Xavi Costas penalty shot in minute 15, and seconds later, Pascual doubled the Barça lead after overtaking three rivals and finding the net.
But Barça Lassa did not have enough. Two minutes later, Joao Rodrigues extended the lead further, this time from the penalty spot. Pau Bargalló then made it 4-0 in minute 19.
With the Palau Blaugrana witnessing a goal-fest, the beginning of the second half saw the pace slow down a bit and while the visitors began getting some chances, Fernández was stellar between the pipes.
But that didn’t last long, as Rodrigues scored a sublime goal, assisted by Pascual, making it 5-0 in minute 44. It was the 17th goal of the season for Rodrigues, the continent’s top scorer. Pascual then completed his hat-trick moments later, making it 6-0 in the 47th. And Gual rounded out the scoring with a penalty shot.
Barça now move into the final four, but must first return to domestic competition. Barça host Alcoyano at the Palau on Saturday, April 13 at 8.45pm CET.
