Presentation of the first ever FCBEscola for basketball

The school will open its doors on 19 September and will be run by former player Nacho Solozabal

The first ever FCBEscola Basketball was presented on Thursday, in the presence of the club’s basketball director Joan Bladé, FCBEscola director Òscar Grau, the sporting advisor of the new FCBEscola for basketball Nacho Solozabal and Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The newly-founded basketball school will open its doors on 19 September while trials will be held on 23 and 30 April, and 21 May.

"It is an exciting project that demonstrates the commitment to multiple sports and the belief in the various sports sections of the club,” said Bladé.

For Grau, the new school will "provide comprehensive training following the methodology and the values of Barça".

To create a base of players

FCBEscola Basketball will have a capacity of up to 144 children, from six to 12 years of age, and 72 participants aged four and five. The fee will be €170 per quarter for members and €200 for non-members.

Solozabal, who played for Barça’s basketball side from 1978 to 1992, will be in charge of implementing the same successful model that has been implemented in 19 FCBEscola football schools around the world.

“I am very excited about this project. We have all the tools available to make this a success,” said Solozábal, before adding that “the FCBEscola Basketball was something that had been missing from the youth ranks of the club”.

The aim of the FCBEscola is to create a base of players from a young age who have the excitement and the chance to player for the club of their lives based on the same successful model of La Masia.
