Former FC Barcelona player -and current member of the Barça Legends- Javier Saviola recently visited the Barça Academy Delhi facilities in the town of Gurgaon. Saviola was given a great welcome by the more than 600 boys and girls that form part of the Club's football school across its seven centres, spread over the Indian capital. The Argentine also participated in the day’s training session of the day, taking part in a total of six matches.
Once the games had come to an end, Saviola signed shirts and posed for photos with the children, as well as interacting with parents and the school's coaches.
The striker was surprised by the magnitude of the FC Barcelona project in the city of Delhi, where he spent a few hours after his scoring appearance for the Barça Legends in Kolkata against Mohun Bagan.
The Barça Academy project began its activities in India in 2011 with its first Barça Academy Camps. Currently there are two schools in the country, in Delhi (opened in 2013) and Mumbai (in 2016), forming part of the 15 international academies in the Asia Pacific region.
Forty-five projects Barça Academy in five continents
The Barça Academy is the FC Barcelona football school model which has the main objective of integral training. This model, exported internationally, aims to expand the Barça brand and transmit the club’s philosophy of hard work and values around the world.
The schools work with their own unique model, based on the Barça methodology used from the lower levels to the first team, with a creative and attacking style of play and the indispensable transmission of values: Respect, humility, effort, ambition and teamwork. It has had proven results.
Currently, FC Barcelona have a total of 45 Barça Academy projects worldwide, more than 180 Campuses and 50 Clinics, with a presence in 52 countries and the participation of more than 45,000 children.
These Barça Academy projects are divided into the Barça Escola in Barcelona, the Barça Academy Pro in Haikou (China) and New York (United States), the Barça Residency Academy Arizona (United States) and the 41 Barça Academy distributed across the five continents .
