Ball starts rolling in Barça Academy Las Américas Cup at Cap Cana

Opening ceremony includes exhibition of typical Dominican carnival

The third edition of the Barça Academy Las Américas Cup has kicked off at Los Establos, Cap Cana, featuring 600 players aged 6 to 17 years from eight different countries. It got under way after an opening ceremony that included a traditional carnival parade with such characters as devils and roosters, and with all the players gathering on the field in simulation of a 4-3-3 formation.

The welcome speech was given by the director of the Barça Academy project, Carles Martín, who thanked all the players and their families for making the trip to Cap Cana for this annual tournament, which includes three new categories in 2018 and a 50% increase in the number of participants.

The honorary kick-off was taken by the executive director of Cap Cana, Jorge Subero, in representation of this famous tourist resort in the Dominican Republic, and which like the the Barça Academy Las Américas Cup is growing bigger and bigger each year.
