Best Goal Ever attracts attention from international media

Messi's goal against Getafe was chosen as Barça's greatest ever, with interest from media outside of Spain

The Best Goal Ever voting has gripped Barça fans and beyond over the past few months, and the winning effort has been given international coverage in the media this week. The result has got journalists debating and remembering Leo Messi's goal against Getafe in the 2006/07 Copa del Rey semifinals, and giving further plaudits to the Argentine superstar.

The BBC highlight the fact that Messi locked out the podium for the competition, with the three most voted for goals. The British broadcaster added the subtitle of "First Place: Leo Messi. Second Place: Leo Messi. Third Place: Leo Messi" to their report on the votes.

The other two goals from the Barça striker were that scored against Athletic Club in the 2014/15 Copa del Rey final at the Camp Nou, and against Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinal at the Santiago Bernabeú in 2010/11.

Media such as Bleacher Report and the Daily Mail shared the video of the Best Goal Ever, as well as posts on social media from the club.

The local sports outlets Sport and Mundo Deportivo have also covered the competition in their print edition, digital platforms and social media.

Messi's goal beat out 63 other strikes, in a process that received over 500,000 votes over the course of three months.
