Barça face Spartak Moscow in Russia this Tuesday in a game that could see them book a place in the knock out stages of the Champions League. It’ll be the second time that Barça have faced Spartak in Moscow, having played in Russia on six occasions – with five draws and one win so far.

Only one win...

Barça’s only win came against Lokomotiv Moscow in the 2002/03 season, when Van Gaal’s side won 1-3 in the group stages of the competition with goals from Kluivert and Saviola(2).

...and five draws

The other five trips to Russia ended in draws. The first, in 1987/88 in the second round of the UEFA Cup ended 0-0 with Dynamo Moscow, whilst the second came in the 1992/93 season, when the then European Champions went out to CSKA, with Begiristain getting the goal a 1-1 draw in Russia.

The only time the teams have ever met in Moscow was in the 1993/4 season when the game ended in a 2-2 draw (goals from Stoichkov and Romario).

The two most recent trips to Russia have been to face Rubin Kazan in the group stages of the 2009/10 and 2010/11 Champions League, when they came away with a 0-0 draw and then drew 1-1, thanks to a Villa penalty.
