Zubizarreta: “We'll remember this for years”

The director of football praises the team and the fans for this evening's historic comeback against AC Milan

“We will remember this for years,” mused FC Barcelona’s director of football Andoni Zubizarreta after the team’s 4-0 victory over AC Milan this evening. Zubizarreta is especially pleased with how FC Barcelona started off against the Italian team: “from the very first minute we pressured them really well high up the pitch and we didn’t let them think. They’ve shown us why they are in the Champions League, but I believe we played an excellent match.” He added: “we were very organised going forward, we had rhythm and a lot of continuity.”

Collective victory

He then went on to highlight Barça’s collective effort: “I’m very happy for all of them. We saw a lot of positive things and it’s worth sitting down and analysing it all when we’ve calmed down a bit.” He added: “Messi’s two goals were great for the team, Villa’s was very important and Alba made everyone’s dreams come true.”

The director of football had special words of praise for Sergio Busquets. According to Zubizarreta, “his match was amazing because it’s the style of football that is taught in our youth system.” He also stated that the fans played a crucial role in the outcome of the match: “the public understood the match, the stadium was packed 10 minutes before kick off.”

Lastly, Zubizarreta was quick to call for caution as he noted that there’s still a long way to go before the end of the season: “we’re in the quarter-finals, there’s a lot left and on Sunday we play against Rayo Vallecano.”
