Zubizarreta impressed by PSG talent

FC Barcelona’s director of sport has highlighted the quality of the PSG squad but feels his side will benefit from the second leg being at the Camp Nou

“Teams only get to the quarter finals of the Champions League if they have done well. We’ll only know if we have had a good or a bad draw if we come back to Nyon in three weeks time. We have just gone through an experience in the last round that has taught us to be prudent”, said Andoni Zubizarreta after Friday’s draw. When Barça’s name came out of the hat, only PSG, Bayern or Juventus remained as possible rivals, all of whom were going present a tough challenge, but as far as Zubi was concerned, “we have to be grateful for the fact that we’re playing the second leg at home, in front of our own people”.

He went on to say that “PSG have some great players, with plenty of talent. They have experience and know how to deal with games like these. I’m sure they’ll be battling to the end. They’re very competitive. And we’ll also get the chance to meet up with some players we know.”

Great games ahead

He also commented on the other match-ups. “Bayern and Juventus are two great clubs, and both in good form. That’s definitely the game that stands out most … As for the other two, I think there’ll be a lot of football in both. Malaga and Dortmund are two teams that like to play the ball. We all know how strong Real Madrid are, but they’re facing a team with some very experienced players.”

But now that the draw has been made, Zubizarreta obviously has more pressing concerns on his mind. “The Champions League will come when it comes, but we have a game against Rayo on Sunday and that really won’t be an easy game at all” he insisted.
