From 60 to 111. It’s a 51 point difference in three games. Barça continue to prepare for the first official trophy of the season, the Endesa Super Cup, and they’re getting better each day. In the first match of the preseason, played in Sant Julià de Vilatorta against Joventut Badalona, the Blaugrana scored 60 points. The scoreline, the lowest so far this preseason, suggested that Pascual’s men had some improving to do, and little by little they’ve edged closer to their ideal form.
In the second match, against La Bruixa d’Or Manresa, the current Cup holders won by scoring 76 points, a mark that was surpassed in the the Euro Hoops Series in Pesaro which was played this Friday and Saturday. In the Italian city, the Blaugrana scored 87 points against Victorio Libertas.
Breaking the 110-point mark
But this Saturday, against Virtus Bologna, the Barça players improved on their past work. They scored 111 points in a friendly match, 62 of which were scored in the second half – a feat not easily attainable by many. The match, which was very level up until the last quarter, was simply spectacular.
Dorsey and Abrines stand out
In Barça’s four preseason matches there are two players that have made the biggest impact. They are Álex Abrines and Joey Dorsey. The Mallorca-born player is enjoying his second season with the first team and he’s put in some spectacular performances. 72 points in four matches, or, 18 points per match. Without a doubt, the 20-year-old could be crucial in Barça’s 2013/14 season.
The other player to make an impact on the team this preseason is Joey Dorsey. The American, who isn’t necessarily known for his attacking ability, has scored 75 points in four matches (18.7 points per match).
