Barça looking to lead in Europe

A win against Metalurg would put Barça top of their group in the VELUX EHF Champions League

Saturday at 16.15 and live on Esport3, the Palau Blaugrana is the venue as Barça take on HC Metalurg of Macedonia. The visitors are unbeaten so far and are one of FCB’s main rivals in the group.

Aware of dangers

As Xavi Pascual told his press conference, Metalurg Skopje are not a team to be taken lightly, and in recent training sessions, the opposition have been analysed and the right tactics have been developed to hopefully deal with them on court

Barça are also unbeaten after drawing with Vardar and beating Wacker Thun, and a win today would put them top of their Champions League group before travelling to Paris on October 20 to face PSG Handball.

The main doubt concerns Siarhei Rutenka, who has back trouble and missed training on Friday.

Unbeaten in Group C

After coming second in the Macedonian League 2012/13 to local rivals Vardar, Metalurg entered the VELUX EHF Champions League by beating Pick Szeged in the preliminaries. They have started strongly, with wins against Wacker Thun and the powerful PSG.

The side managed by Lino Cervar play a solid 6-0 system and have the best defensive record in the competition, mainly thanks to their outstanding Serbian keeper Stanic, but there are other top quality players like Atman and Vugrinec in the squad too.
