Xavi Llorens' players won the first ever match in the UEFA Women's Champions League in the history of the Club Goals from Sonia (2) and Vicky give the Blaugrana a huge lead ahead of Wednesday's second leg of the Round of 16

Historic victory. The Blaugrana won, for the first time in the history of the Club, a match in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Goals from Sonia (2) and Vicky capped off an impeccable performance from Xavi Llorens’ players at home against FC Zurich Frauen.

Beautiful goal to get things rolling

Barça’s start couldn’t have been better as Sonia Bermúdez galloped toward goal and unleashed a perfect shot that curled into into the back of the net. The goal foreshadowed what was to come from Xavi Llorens’ players, who proved that their presence in the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League is no mistake.

Zurich under siege

Barça pinned the visiting team back but no matter what the Blaugrana tried, the 0-1 on the scoreline would stand for the rest of the half. One of the clearest chances was created by Vicky Losada as her chip-shot attempt went just high over Studer’s goal.

The second half started off much in the same way the first ended: with Barça surging forward in the hunt for their second goal. Corredera tried her luck from range but her attempt went just wide, minutes later Vicky’s free kick had the same fate.

But Barça’s determination paid off after a good collective play. Vicky unleashed a powerful shot that was simply unstoppable for Studer. It was 2-0 and the 1,000 fans in the Miniestadi’s stands erupted with joy.

One foot in the quarter-finals

In the last minute of the game, Sonia made it 3-0 and brought Barça one step closer to the next round of the competition. The Blaugrana must make good on today’s victory on Wednesday, when they play the second leg of the tie away to Zurich.
