Women's team to face the European champions

Wolfsburg are Barça's quarter-final rivals in the UEFA Women’s Champions League

FC Barcelona have been paired up with one of the strongest teams in Europe: VfL Wolfsburg. The Germans are the current holders of the title. The first leg will be played in Germany on the 22nd or 23rd of March and the second leg will be played at the Miniestadi on the 29th or 30th.

“We are excited to face off against the champions of Europe, but we’re realistic - we got paired up with the most difficult rival,” said Xavi Llorens after the draw.

“My dream is to go into the second leg with options of going through to the next round and for there to be a lot of support for us in the Miniestadi,” added the Barça manager.

The rest of the of the pairings are as follows: Tyresö-SV Neulengbach, Torres-Turbine Potsdam and Birmingham-Arsenal.

The draw, which took place in Nyon, also decided possible semi-final pairings. In the event Barça defeat Wolfsburg, Llorens’ players will face off against either Torres or Turbine Potsdam.

The Germans demand respect

Wolsburg are one of the most powerful teams in Europe. They crushed their Round of 32 rivals Parsua by an aggregate score of 24 to 0 and they defeated Malmo by 5 to 2 in the Round of 16.

“They are favourites and we will have to play really well. We want to focus on the league now. We have a lot of time to think about the tie and we want to be in a good position in the league in order to approach the Champions League playoff in the best way possible,” concluded Llorens.
