"We couldn't finish our attacking plays, and in the quarter-finals, that decides ties," said the director of football
Andoni Zubizarreta congratulated Atlético Madrid after they defeated FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The director of football admitted that the Madrid-based side were the better team, especially in the first 20 minutes of the match. “The team had character, they wanted to play and they had chances.” With that said, Zubizarreta went on to say that Barça’s players lacked the necessary accuracy to finish off their goal-scoring chances. “We didn’t finalise and these thing, in the quarter-finals, decide a tie.”
Zubizarreta went on to praise Atlético for their “great intensity” which allowed them “to play out the game the way they wanted to.” He also noted that football “can be unpredictable.” He concluded by saying Barça need to move forward and focus on the match against Granada.
