Since coming to Barça three years ago, Munir el Haddadi has been providing examples week in week out of his incredible goalscoring instinct. Though not an out-and-out centre forward, he can slot perfectly into kind of forward line. His use of space is extraordinary, making him a constant danger whenever the ball gets near the opposing area. He moves with seemingly effortless grace when the ball is at his feet, oozing all the magic of the kind of player who simply plays for fun.
Born in Madrid and of Moroccan family background, he made the move to FC Barcelona in the 2011/2012 season to play for the U18 B team. It was immediately clear that the club had a future star on their hands: one who reads the game to perfection and has an excellent sense of playing for the team. Until now, his finest hour was winning the UEFA Youth League, scoring a goal from the halfway line in the 3-0 win over Benfica in the final – a goal that caused the whole world to sit up and take notice of this remarkable young talent.
The club was certainly aware of his potential, and he was handed a professional contract and promoted to the Barça B team, where he has scored four goals in eleven appearances. Four goals that are testimony of his canny knack of finding the right position and scoring from unthinkable situations. Deft chips, power-drives from outside of the area and dazzling runs past defenders. That’s Munir. A player whose mind is focused on one thing above all others – finding the back of the net. This video is a reminder of his goals so far, but you can rest assured that there will be plenty more like these to come in the future.
