FC Barcelona have won their first official match of the season, the Super Cup semi-final against Reus Deportiu.
But the win didn’t come easy, and a gripping first half was looking to end without score before Reus took the lead from the penalty spot.
Six minutes into the second half and Barça finally opened their own account, also from the penalty spot, through Álvarez. The remainder of the half produced plenty of tense drama, but nothing in the way of goals, setting things up for a thrilling last ten minutes. Finally, on 44 minutes, Panadero put FCB ahead for the first time in the match before Álvarez sprung from behind the goal to make it 3-1. It looked like that had settled the match, but Coy replied almost immediately for Reus.
The final minutes were a frenzy of action, but Barça managed to hold on to their slender lead, and can now prepare to challenge Liceu for the silverware on Sunday.
