After three wins out of three for FC Barcelona in La Liga, Pedro Rodríguez spoke to the press on Monday morning. Luis Enrique seems to have a lot of faith in him, although he has yet to be repaid with goals. But the Canary Islander isn’t too concerned about that, commenting that “I might not be getting goals, but I’m happy with the way things are going and I’m sure they’ll start coming. The important thing is that the team is working well”.
He went on to explain that “the basic idea is still the same. Perhaps we should try to get closer to the area and not play so wide. But we feel comfortable with our game, we’re doing fine … The boss has asked us to create pressure up front, to win back the ball and keep it for ourselves. We’re doing that well and teams don’t create many chances against us. But there’s a lot we have to improve”.
Neither is Pedro too worried about the fierce competition for places in the Barça frontline. “I just want to work” he says. “I’m competing with the best strikers in the world and it’s hard to always get in the team. What Munir and Sandro are doing is motivating for all of us. They want to do things right and that’s good for the team. And there’s still Suárez to come. The more the merrier”.
Champions League dawning
It is just two days before Barça begin their European quest against Apoel Nicosia. “It’s a very nice competition” said Pedro. “We’ll be playing against a physical side that tracks back well. I’m sure it’ll be a difficult game.”
“Every year we work hard to reach the Champions League final. It was a shame to lose to Atlético last year. We’re really up for it this season and hoping to win the title. But it’s always hard, especially in the knockout phase.”
