Luis Enrique was able to get almost everyone into the match 22 players used in the four games played so far this season

Once the match against APOEL was over, Luis Enrique reiterated that he wanted all his players to feel important. Based on how he has managed the team thus far, he means what he says.  In four matches, the coach has called on 22 players. Only Luis Suarez, serving a suspension, the injured Masip and Vermaelen, and the newly signed Douglas have yet to appear.

Barça v APOEL by the numbers:

  • Of the 22 players used thus far, 21 have started at least once. The only exception is Sandro, who has subbed in three times.
  • Only two players, Messi and Munir, have started all four games so far. They are followed by Bravo, Mathieu, Alba, Sergio and Rakitic with three starts each.
  • Messi is the only player to have played all 360 minutes this season.
  • Ter Stegen, Bartra, Adriano, Samper, Sergi Roberto, Xavi and Neymar Jr. all made their first starts of the season against APOEL.
  • In fact, the game marked the official debut for both Ter Stegen and Samper.

  • Alves also led the team with 11,322 meters covered. He was followed by Samper (11,296m) and Adriano (11,283m).
  • Gerard Piqué scored his 21st career goal for Barça. It was his seventh overall Champions League goal, and his second in a Champions League opener.
  • Xavi is now tied with Raúl González as the all time leader in Champions League matches played, with 142.
  • FC Barcelona as a team is now just one goal shy of 500 all time in Champions League play.
