Intense week for FC Barcelona basketball

Here's a look at the top news surrounding the hoops team as they solidify the squad for the 2015/16 season

This past week has been an active one for FC Barcelona's basketball team, with four new signings who all passed their medicals. Stratos Perperoglou, Pau Ribas and Carlos Arroyo, and Aleksandar Vezenkov are the newest faces to join the team coached by Xavi Pascual.

Perperoglou, a small forward from Greece, signed a two-year deal with Barça. Ribas, who hails from the city of Barcelona and spent the last three seasons with Valencia, signed a three-year contract.

Arroyo, a 36-year-old guard from Puerto Rico, signed a one-year deal with Barça. Before officially signing on the dotted line and undergoing his medical, Arroyo caught up briefly with new teammate-to-be and fellow backcourt mate Juan Carlos Navarro and also stopped by the FCB Megastore for a photo session. Arroyo will be the eighth Puerto Rican to play FC Barcelona.

Vezenkov, a versatile forward with Cypriot and Bulgarian nationality, signed with FC Barcelona for four seasons. He is coming off a big year with the Aris Basketball Club, where he was MVP and leading scorer of the Greek League after averaging 17 points per game.

In other news:

Guard Ludde Hakanson, a 19-year-old from Sweden, was sent on loan to Latvian team VEF Riga. There he'll be getting significantly more playing time while in the highly competitive VTB United League.

The FC Barcelona B basketball team's 2015/16 schedule was released. Competing in the second division this season, the Catalans learned that they would be playing their first game at the Ciutat Esportiva on October 3 against Granada.
