Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets feature as Spain defeat Ukraine

Del Bosque rests several players as his side win 1-0 to close Euro 2016 qualifying group in first place

On Monday evening, Spain won 1-0 in Ukraine thanks to a solitary goal from Villarreal full-back Mario Gaspar. Spain manager Vicente Del Bosque rested a number of his leading players in ultimately meaningless game, with Spain already safely through to the finals in France. This meant that there were no FC Barcelona players in the starting eleven.

Manchester United keeper David De Gea was the star of the show with a number of important saves. In the second half, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets were among the substitutes. The former was on for the last 20 minutes and the latter came on in the 82nd minute. Marc Bartra and Gerard Piqué, however, remained on the bench.

Spain end top of Group C on 27 points, Slovakia, with 22, also go through to the finals, while Ukraine will go into the playoffs.
