Barça’s three rivals in Group E in the Champions League have all won this weekend. BATE Borisov ran out 2-1 winners over Naftan Novopolotsk, AS Roma won away at Fiorentina by the same scoreline and Bayer Leverkusen took a 4-3 win at home in a frenetic encounter with Stuttgart.
Belarussian side BATE, already crowned league champions, took all three points at home to Naftan Novopolotsk, Mozolevski scoring two goals, one in each half, to put his side 2-0 before the visitors pulled one back with 11 minutes to go. The Belarus league title holders will be Barça’s next opponents in the Champions League when they visit Camp Nou on Wednesday 4 November.
Rudi Garcia’s Roma side took an impressive away win at Fiorentina thanks to goals from Salah and Gervinho. Both strikes came in the first half and despite a last minute effort from Fiorentina to pull one back, Roma took a 2-1 victory to move them ahead of Fiorentina and into first place in Serie A.
Bayer Leverkusen saw off Stuttgart on Saturday thanks to a spectacular comeback. Roger Schmidt’s team were 3-1 with just half an hour to go but an amazing turnaround was completed in the very last minute when Mehmedi’s goal gave them a barely believable 4-3 win at home. Bellerabi, Boenisch and Javier Hernández were on the mark also for Bayer who sit in fifth place in the Bundesliga with 17 points after 10 league games.
