Eleven stats from first eleven games in La Liga

After beating Villarreal, FC Barcelona go into the Clásico top of the table with 27 points, three more than opponents Real Madrid

After the defeat of Villarreal at the Camp Nou, Barça lead the First Division table on points for the first time this season. They have won nine and lost two games, with no draws in the first eleven fixtures.

Luis Enrique has used 22 different players in La Liga this season. Goalkeeper Jordi Masip is the only first team player that has yet to feature, apart from Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal who will not be cleared to play until after the Christmas break. Gerard Gumbau of Barça B has also played a part.

Sergio Busquets is the only player to have appeared in every game so far, totalling 902 minutes. That’s marginally more than Luis Suárez, who has played 900 minutes but didn’t play in the game with Levante.

Neymar Jr is the top scorer so far with eleven goals, not just for the team but in the competition as a whole. Luis Suárez is second in the race for the ‘Pichichi’ award with nine goals. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Agirretxe (Real Sociedad) and Javi Guerra (Rayo) have eight each.

The famous ‘trident’ of Neymar Jr, Luis Suárez and Leo Messi are at it again, having shared a massive 23 of the 25 Liga goals scored so far by the team. Two defenders, Marc Bartra and Thomas Vermaelen, got the other two.

Of those 25 goals, 14 have been right-footers, nine have been left-footers and the other two were headers.

Barça’s most dangerous period so far has been the first quarter of the second half, when eight of their goals have been scored.

Sergi Roberto, Luis Suárez and Neymar Jr lead the team in assists with three each.

FC Barcelona is the only Liga team to have kept a one hundred per record at home. That’s six wins out of six so far.

It’s nothing new, but Barça is once again the team that has made the most passes in the competition, 6,680. That’s an average of 607 a game. Midfield maestro Sergio Busquets leads the team in this category, with 666 passes in 11 games.

Thomas Vermaelen has the highest percentage of completed passes, with a huge 92.81% accuracy rate. But the Belgian has achieved this in just three matches, while Javier Mascherano has a rate of 90.89% after eight appearances.
