FC Barcelona used to rounding off group stage with a win

Barça have only lost once in their last 10 final group games in the initial stages of the Champions League

FC Barcelona face Bayer Leverkusen this Wednesday (8.45pm CET) with their homework completed in this season’s Champions League group stage. The current champions of Europe have assured themselves of top spot in Group E with a game still to play and so once more they are through to the last 16 of the competition. In contrast the Germans are in third place in the group, level on points with AS Roma and so have to win in their last game and hope the Italians do not against BATE Borisov if they are to join Barça in the knock out stages.

Roger Schmidt’s side are up against it as the Catalans have an excellent record in the final game of the group stages in recent years. Since the 2005/06  when Barça claimed their second victory in the competition with a win over Arsenal in Paris, they have picked up six wins, one draw and one defeat in their final group game. They have qualified as group winners on all but one occasion, as back in 2006/07 they qualified as runners up to Chelsea in the initial phase.

Below are the details of Barça’s record on Match Day 6 of the Champions League:
