Atlético Madrid crush Betis ahead of visit to Camp Nou in the Champions League

A 5-1 victory for the red-and-whites closes the gap on runaway Liga leaders FC Barcelona

Atlético Madrid prepared for Tuesday’s Champions League quarter final visit to the Camp Nou with a 5-1 demolition of Real Betis,

Fernando Torres opened the scoring and Antoine Griezmann added another just before the break. Juanfran made it 3-0 after 65 minutes, and although Ruben Castro did pull one back for the visitors, a second from Griezmann and an injury time strike from substitute Thomas Partey finished off an emphatic afternoon of football at the Vicente Calderón.

The result closes the gap between Atlético and Liga leaders Barça to six points following on from the blaugranes' 2-1 home defeat to Real Madrid at Camp Nou. Zinedine Zidane's side are now seven points back in third place in the league table.
