Spain fall to Georgia, 1–0, in final Euro tune up

With a trio of Barça players in the starting lineup, a lone first-half goal downs the defending European champions in Getafe

The Spanish national team wrapped up their preparations for the 2016 European championships with a 1–0 defeat to Georgia on Tuesday night in Getafe.

Tornike Okriashvili took advantage of Spain’s lone defensive error to put Georgia ahead in the 40th minute.

FC Barcelona players Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Gerard Piqué started for Spain.

Busquets gave the crowd a brief scare when he collided with Georgia goalkeeper Nukri Revishvili early in the second half.

Andrés Iniesta came on in the second half to try and provide a spark, but Georgia’s defence was stifling.

Former Barça players Cesc, Pedro, Bellerín, Thiago and Nolito also featured for Spain.

Spain’s first game in the Euro 2016 in France comes Monday, 13 June against the Czech Republic in Toulouse at 3.00pm CET.
