Sandro Ramírez signs with Málaga CF

The striker begins a new stage in his career after rising through the youth ranks of FC Barcelona and playing in 32 games with the first team

Sandro Ramirez is now a member of Málaga CF. The 20-year-old striker, a native of the Canary Islands, is leaving FC Barcelona to begin a new stage in his career that will allow him to continue playing in the top flight of Spanish football.

Ramírez, commonly known as Sandro, came up through the youth ranks of FC Barcelona after coming from his native Las Palmas. He became a full-fledged member of the first team last season.

In total, Sandro made 32 appearances for manager Luis Enrique and scored seven goals.

First team Technical Secretary Robert Fernandez had recently announced that the Club would help him leave in order to give him an opportunity to progress. FC Barcelona has expressed its sincerest thanks to the player for his professionalism and dedication while at the Club.

Steady progression to the first team

Sandro starred at La Masia thanks to his speed, versatility, and goal scoring instinct, attributes that helped him rise to the first team in the 2014/15 season. He made a big splash when debuted on 31 August 2014 against Villarreal at El Madrigal, scoring the winning goal in a 1–0 FC Barcelona triumph.

Sandro had initially come to Barça from Las Palmas in 2009 to play for the Under-16 B team, and from there he rose steadily up to the first team.

The 2015/16 season was his first as a mainstay on the first team. Sandro made 20 appearances and scored three goals, all in the Copa del Rey.

His playing time dwindled as the season went on and, in the team's stretch drive, he went down with an injury that kept him from contributing.

Now, however, Sandro will have a fresh beginning.
