The 22-year-old shooting guard is heading to the NBA to play for the Oklahoma City Thunder

Alex Abrines, until now a player of FC Barcelona Lassa basketball, has informed the Club of his decision to trigger the clause in his contract between the two parties to move to the Oklahoma City Thunder of the NBA.

Àlex Abrines's career at FC Barcelona

Àlex Abrines came to FC Barcelona from Unicaja Málaga for the 2012/13 season, after dazzling basketball fans at the young age of just 18.

The shooting guard, a native of the Balearic Islands, played for the Catalans for four seasons, during which he became one of the team’s most outstanding and beloved players.

Abrines also got playing time as a small forward while continually improving during his stint with the Club and becoming a more complete player.

Strong defensively and accurate from beyond the three-point arc, Abrines’s performance with Barça caught the eye of the Spanish national team. He made his debut for Spain during the 2014 FIBA World Championships, which were held in Barcelona.

Abrines was selected 32nd overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2013 NBA Draft, which is where he’s headed now after saying farewell to Barça.

In the ACB, the Spanish First Division, Abrines made the league’s all-youngster team twice, in 2013/14 and 2014/15. He also won the Euroleague’s Rising Star award this past May.

In four years with FC Barcelona, Abrines played in 255 games, winning the 2013/14 ACB title, the 2012/13 Copa del Rey, and the 2015/16 ACB Super Cup.

Last season, Abrines played 65 games and averaged 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.
