Barça will play in the 2025 Club World Championship after receiving an invitation from the International Handball Federation (IHF). The team will compete for the world title in Egypt from 26 September to 2 October.
The IHF cited as reasons for the invitation both the fact that Barça are the most decorated club in the competition, with five titles (2013, 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2019), and that their participation “brings prestige and significant global recognition.”
“It is expected that FC Barcelona’s presence will raise the competitive level of the championship and further increase international attention and public interest in the event,” the organisation stated.
Barça’s inclusion completes the list of nine participants. Also taking part will be European sides Magdeburg (Champions League winners) and Veszprém (current World Championship holders); African clubs Zamalek and Al Ahly; Asian team Sharjah SC; American representatives California Eagles and Handebol Taubaté; and Sydney Uni as Oceania champions.
The Club World Championship will once again be held in Cairo, as was the previous edition, where Barça narrowly missed out on reaching the final. The draw for the competition will take place during August.
