Barça Femeni have begun their title defence with a 5-2 defeat of Paris FC at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. It started with a scare as the visitors took the lead after five minutes, but four Barça goals (from Kerolin, Serrajordi, Pajor and Caroline Graham) turned the game around before half-time. In the second half, Ewa Pajor completed her brace to make it five.
Clàudia Pina had to leave the pitch for a few minutes after being trodden on, and moments later Paris FC took the lead through a fine move from Evelyne Viens, who got the better of Paredes and Martina. With Pina back on the pitch, Barça set about finding an equaliser.
Kerolin opens her account
A fine response from Pere Romeu's side, with Brugts moving inside in attack and becoming the main source of danger as Barça created two chances to level before the ten-minute mark. Kerolin made no mistake when her opportunity came. The new Barça signing latched onto a superb assist from Pina and finished low to equalise and score her first goal for the club and level the scores.
Barça were not content with the equaliser and completed the comeback from a set piece. After applying pressure from a series of corners, Clara Serrajordi met a rehearsed move from Caroline Graham first time to put the blaugranes ahead.
Barça make their chances count
Patri found ‘Caro’ with a long ball in behind the defence, and she crossed for Ewa Pajor to finish from close range and extend the lead on 35 minutes. Just when it seemed there would be no further scoring before the break, Caroline Graham struck from distance to make it four.
With no changes at half-time, the Catalans eased off the pace and controlled proceedings in more measured fashion. Pina, Serrajordi and Kerolin made way for Carolina, Lúa and Torrejón on the hour mark.
Pajor makes it five
Sydney upped the tempo. A backheel to Lúa led to the ball being played through to Ewa Pajor, who managed to beat the goalkeeper and bundle the ball over the line along with her to complete the ‘manita’.
Paris FC responded on the counter with a goal from Clara Mateo, following a series of ricochets inside the area that the Barça defence were unable to clear. With youngster Laia Cabetas also getting some minutes, Barça saw out their opening Champions League fixture of the season.
