Barça 4-1 PSV: Into the UWCL last sixteen

Barça have continued their fine start to the Champions League, with a 4-1 victory on Wednesday to add to the win by the same score in Eindhoven - hence an 8-2 win overall to go into the last sixteen of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Graham Hansen and Lieke Martens scored two goals each at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.  

Graham Hansen opened the scoring straight from the off, a powerful drive off an Alexia assist. Barça were playing exquisite football, with Cata Coll, making her continental debut in goal, Pereira and Mapi León doing a fine job in the centre of defence and the midfield trio of Vicky, Alexia and Aitana dominating the possession. 

Lieke Martens was able to celebrate her 28^th birthday by scoring the second, converting a Losada cross from the narrowest of angles to leave qualification more than assured.

The second half was almost entirely about how many more goals the Catalans were going to score. Van Veenendaal’s area was under constant pressure, and Graham Hansen and Martens were both able to score their second goals of the night, with two more players coming on to make their UWCL debuts: Jana and Bruna. Eindhoven did manage a consolation goal right at the end, but it made absolutely no difference to the general picture: Barça were sailing through to the last sixteen. 

Barça will now have to wait until 16 February 2021 to find out who they will be playing next. In the meantime, there’s a Liga Iberdrola game with Sevilla this Saturday at noon CET.
